The Avoca Beach Surf Rowing Boat the ‘Johnny Mitchell’, sponsored by Thompson Clarke, attended its inaugural Surf Rowing Tournament – The Australian National Championships more commonly known as “The Aussies” - at Maroochydore in the Sunshine Coast, Australia, between Monday 18 and Sunday 24 April. The boat was rowed by both the Avoca Beach Men’s Under 19 and Men’s Under 23 crews. The Avoca Beach Under 23 Ladies also rowed in the well-known ‘Sandy Mitchell’ – The Pink Boat - in which the U19 Men’s won the Gold last year. The Ladies did well to reach the quarter finals, as did the U19 and the U23 rowed excellently to make the finals and ultimately come home with Bronze. An outstanding performance by the Men and the ‘Johnny Mitchell’ at its inaugural meeting. Thompson Clarke congratulates all participants in the 2016 ‘Aussies’ event this year.

U19’s Avoca Beach National Surf Rowing Champs

Thompson Clarke would like to congratulate the Avoca Beach u19's Surf Boat crew on earning the highly coveted title of Central Coast Surf Life Saving Team of the Year, in addition to being shortlisted for the NSW Surf Life Saving Team of the Year. Most team's only dream of achieving this level of award and it comes as a result of three years of dedication to training and extraordinary performance in competition, culminating in some huge wins this Season.

The 2014-15 season has been very successful for the Under 19s surf boat crew, taking out first place in the Australian, State and Central Coast Branch Titles and first place in the Australian Surf Rowers League National Titles. This is no mean feat! This remarkable achievement is a true credit to their efforts over the last few years.

The boys also took out first place in the Central Coast/Hunter Region Streets surf boat series. Not only did they dominate in their own age division, but they held their own in the Open men's division, taking home gold in the branch double of u19s and open male titles.
The team's achievements are all the more outstanding, considering they have only been rowing together for less than three years.
After a troublesome start to the season with injuries, Avoca Beach have persevered through dedication to training and fitness to finish up with an exceptional end to the 2014/15 season.
